You just have to believe

So this morning, our 4 year old Andrew could not have been more sure that today was the day we had to go to the beach. He came down from his room with swim trunks and sandals in hand. We tried to explain that we live in Ohio and that it is winter time and cold. His simple reply was "you just have to believe!" I think the Polar Express movie really touched him!

With nothing else pressing to do, we decided to indulge Andrew and take a trip out to the lake. We picked up DeeDee (Grandma) and Papa (Grandpa) along the way and went to Huntington Beach on the West side of town.

Even though it is the week before Christmas, I must say the weather was great. We walked along the water, collected lake glass, wrote messages in the sand, and skipped stones. Everyone had a great time.

The trip was such a perfect distraction from all the hustle and bustle this time of year. Andrew really taught us a lesson about the innocence of youth, and and helped us to remember one of the most important things about this holiday season...spending time with loved ones !!!

On a sad note, while walking from the parking lot my 28-70 lens fell off the camera and bounced on the blacktop. It is pretty much toast for now, but I was still able to get some shots as none of the glass broke. Thanks to DeeDee for getting a nice shot of Jenelle and me and the family shot.

Merry Christmas!

Turkey anyone?

Obviously there are some really cool things about being a wedding photographer:

I get to be with people on one of the most special days of their lives. I get to meet new people every week. I get fed great food. I get to hear the Electric Slide every weekend.

I could go on...

On top of all of that, every once in a while I get an incredible opportunity to shoot a destination wedding. Last year I shot in St. Thomas in the USVI. This March I will be shooting a wedding in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Now, I am excited to announce I will be traveling to Turkey this June to capture another wedding.

I have never been to Europe let alone Turkey so this is very exciting. I can't wait. And don't worry I will be posting lots of images from the trip.

Nikon D3

Nikon recently released a new camera to the DSLR lineup. I by no means am a gear junkie, but this was huge news for the few Nikon shooters out there. The D3's greatest feature is the high iso, low light shooting ability. For weddings, where you often have to deal with less than desirable lighting conditions, the new improvements are incredible. Timing of the release could not have been better either. I will have all winter long to explore the new possibilities of this camera.
